We were drawn to Tignes in the summer of
2001 after hearing so many stories about how exctiting and
fun Tignes is in the summer, after riding all winter and wanting
to keep our snowboarding skills up we spent the summer there
as well as many winters and because we like it so much we havn't
missed a summer since.
With close to 100 activities on offer there
is enough to keep even the most hyperactive entertained. The
open and friendly vibe of the locals and resort staff provide
the perfect environment for anyone visiting.
Tignes has invested a lot of time and money
into developing the resort in the summer. Eric Cantona has been bringing
his beach soccer tournament and the mix of top class football
and samba dancers has proved to be a big hit. This years
tournemant takes place from the 27th-29th July.
The Activities list goes on, last summer
we had Moto-X, big air displays, high diving, weekly skateboard
comps and not to mention the spectacular Bastile Day Festival. Also popular,
the wine festival has continued to prove a big attraction amongst
locals and visitors alike at the end of the summer for those
who know ‘their clarets from their Beaujolais'.
By far this summers biggest attraction in
Tignes has to be the 'Tour de France'. If you've ever been to France during
this spectacle you'll know how crazy this time gets. This stage
starts on the 15th in Briancon and finishing in Tignes Le Lac
(where it just so happens our chalet has a large balcony to watch
all the action on). The next stage continues in the neighbouring
resort of Val d'isere on the 17th which is a short 15 mins car
ride away.
For most the main reason for visiting Tignes
in the summer is the opportunity to ride on the Grande Motte
Glacier and its large fun Terrain Park and Piste's, so awesome
that Snowboard UK has many times used it to put the forthcoming
season’s boards
and equipment through their paces. Its also not an uncommon
occurance to see some of Europes top riders throwing down in
the Tignes Terrain Park.
