By road :
More and more people are driving down through France now. When
you are staying in resort for a long time it is often handy
to have a car at your disposal. Also, driving out means you
are not subject to the same baggage restrictions that you would
be with flying. It is a long journey and its best if you can
share the drive with someone as it can take approx. 10hrs to
reach Tignes from Calais. Roadside parking can often be impossible
in Tignes, but there are a number of underground parking facilities,
where you can buy a pass for the season (see tignes.net ).
It's a straight forward drive to the French Alps but if you
want to plan your route in advance then have a look at multimap.com
and autoroute.com . You will need to book the channel crossing
in advance whether it be on the train with Eurotunnel or one
of the various ferry company's such as Seafrance . They can
be flexible and it may be possible to get on and earlier departure.
By rail :
Travelling down by train has become very popular recently.
The Eurostar trains run from London Waterloo straight down to Bourg
St Maurice. Alternatively you can get the Eurostar to Paris where
you can transfer to one of the native TGV or SNCF sleeper trains
which also run direct to Bourg St Maurice. Autocars Martin run
regular transfer buses up the mountain from Bourg.
By air :
Geneva, Lyon St Exupery and Chambery are the three main airports
when travelling out. All are serviced by the numerous budget
airlines. This is all fairly self explanatory but check out the
usual suspects such as easyjet ,ryanair and flybe . Once you
have landed you can catch a transfer bus to take you from the
airport to Tignes. Check out alp-skibus and satobus-alps for
more information
